{here’s Ekman+Eira, my sweet couple from May 2011}

I’ve been nervous to reach my birthday for a few hours now. Previously, I was just going to be turning 27… who cares? But now, I am turning 28 in the midst of a search for a new perspective on life. For some reason, I felt I should receive something profound to say or to do. I thought God may give me a clear path to follow for my life. It seems reasonable that God would hold onto big life-changing decisions so he could disperse them on important days like birthdays or maybe even Thanksgiving. So I was ready to receive something new and important.

“I was born to laugh. I learned to laugh through my tears.
I was born to love. I gonna learn to love, without fear.”

I’m writing this today so that when I read this post five years from now, I never forget who I am, from where I’ve come, and where I want to go. I’m truly happy with my simple life… When I focus everything I have, I hardly notice the things I want. And I couldn’t think of a better way to appreciate my life and who I am.

A person who lives simply. Because in simplicity there is excess.

Nothing changed for me today, which is what I desperately wanted to happen. But now I have peace that it’s okay that nothing changed for me today. Who knows about tomorrow, but today, I have peace that everything is as it should be. It’s hard to gather up my pride, my ego, my fancy dreams and my business cards and pile them on the diary not knowing what (if anything) will be returned to me. But Allah said, don’t worry about any of that stuff today. In return, He gave me ‘peace’.

I can’t imagine a better birthday present.
